Appeal for Luka – A Child with Autism Who Needs Our Help
Restoring lives. Rebuilding communities. Healing hearts.
We invite you to join us in showing compassion and hope to a young boy named Luka, a precious child living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Luka’s early life began like that of any other child. His birth and infancy were normal, but as he grew, his parents noticed some delays. He sat at six months, crawled, and only began to walk at twenty months. Yet, unlike other children, Luka has never developed communicative speech. He expresses himself through actions and associations rather than words.
Despite his challenges, Luka is a gentle and bright soul. He feeds himself, responds to his name, and enjoys moments of play — mostly alone or near his loving mother, Mary Aluat Kuany, who cares for him and his six siblings in Kasarani, near the Thika Highway in Nairobi.
However, Luka faces daily struggles that make his life difficult and sometimes unsafe. He has no sense of danger and has previously wandered away from home when the gate was left open. He doesn’t sleep well, struggles to focus, and cannot engage in structured tasks.
Recently, Luka was taken to the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), where specialists diagnosed him with Autism Spectrum Disorder, accompanied by ADHD and insomnia. The professionals strongly recommended that Luka attend a specialized therapeutic school where he can receive consistent care, behavioural support, and special education tailored to his needs.
This opportunity could truly transform Luka’s life — but his mother cannot afford the cost.
The annual school fee is approximately $1,150 AUD (or KES 110,000), covering therapy sessions, learning support, and basic school materials. This is far beyond the family’s means.
Through Light Along My Path (LAMP), we are appealing to friends, churches, and compassionate supporters to help Luka access the care and education he urgently needs.
